Fujinon XF 35mm f1.4 R

Arrived today, the latest addition to my Fuji kit, the Fujinon XF 35mm f1.4 R lens.

I bought it used, not that you can tell though, it looks as if its never even been fitted to a camera body, from MBP Photographic. It arrived in the original Fuji box, wrapped in the plastic as it did new. Not a mark on it and with the bayonet fit lens hood as well.

Attached to the X-Pro1 it works perfectly, and looks superb.

Looking forward to putting it through its paces soon.

Straight out of camera jpg no post processing just re-sizing for the blog.
Focus point was the ribbed focus barrel on the 18-55mm lens. Nice thin DoF.
1250 ISO f1.4 1/100th sec Handheld.

The weather forecast for the weekend was not favourable, so I took some quick images this lunchtime, bright but overcast. I'm impressed with the lens sharpness and Bokeh.

Angels with dirty faces - York cemetery with Fuji X-Pro1

The Light was flat today but at least it wasn't raining so I was determined to get some image making done. I had to go out to get some milk, so chucked the X-Pro1 in the car and decided to go via York Cemetery, they would have to wait 30 mins longer for their cup of tea back home.

I set the X-Pro1 to shoot in Mono film simulation so I could get an idea of what the image would look like in BW. As I always shoot in jpg+RAW this still gives me the option to process in colour from the RAW file.

Over on the RHS of York Cemetery there are several Angels on headstones, I decided that I'd concentrate on these as a subject.

Keeping with my recent Adobe-free workflow I processed these in Apple Photos, I didn't even use any of the Affinity Photo extensions, just the Photos adjustments and presets.

All images taken with Fuji X-Pro1 and Fujinon XF1-55mm OIS lens.

Llanerchaeron with Fuji X-Pro1

Llanerchaeron is a grade I listed mansion on the River Aeron, designed and built in 1795 by John Nash for Major William Lewis as a model, self-sufficient farm complex.
Llanerchaeron is located some 2½ miles south-east of Aberaeron, Ceredigion, Wales.
Now cared for by the National Trust, we visited in the summer and found it an interesting house. The out buildings, which unusually, have not been renovated or converted from their original use give a rare insight into how the farm worked.
I had with me my Fuji X-Pro1 and used the Fujinon XF 18 - 55mm OIS.

Images processed in Apple Photos.

Fuji X-Pro1 with Ebay flash triggers, Canon 430EXII and silver umbrella with diffuser.

A quick experiment with the Fuji X-Pro1 and some manual flash work.

I wanted to try the classic Hollywood beauty lighting. This is usually done with a studio flash and beauty dish, however I don't have either of these so I used a silver reflector umbrella with a diffuser over the front.

I attached the Canon 430EXII to the Ebay flash triggers and mounted it inside the umbrella. I set ISO at 200, the shutter speed to 1/125th and the flash power to 1:2.

I fired off a few test shots starting with the aperture of the Fujinon XF 18-55mm OIS at f4. Exposure looked OK at f6.4 so I measured the distance to Topsy's eyes and set the focus manually.

I took a few shots, altering the flash output in the 0.3 stop increments until we had the lighting we liked. for some shots we removed the diffuser which gave more contrasty shadows I had to reduce the flash power by a stop.

Images processed in Lr and Ps CC

Artist Jake Attree, some more from the video shoot

Some more images from the video shoot last week with Jake Attree.
I used my Fuji X-PRO1 with the Fujinon XF 18-55mm OIS lens.

I always find artists working methods interesting. The way Jake mixes his paint and what he uses as a palette, even what he wears to paint. I think it all contributes to the final artwork.

By way of an experiment these images were processed in Apple Photos using the Affinity Photo and BeFunky extensions.

See more on Jake
